The product enhancers

Building bridges between start-ups and large corporations is what Holland Innovative, headquartered in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, specialises in. On the one hand, the high-tech experts implement optimisation and development projects for big companies and on the other hand they use their experience to support promising start-ups. At Hannover Messe they will be providing a platform for around 20 innovative founders of companies from a wide variety of areas ranging from autonomous mobile robots to simulated heart surgery and creative lighting concepts.

Holland Innovative’s core skills lie in optimisation and development projects. “As part of these projects, we enhance customers’ processes and products by using high-tech elements. The companies come from a very broad range of different sectors such as the automotive and energy industries”, says Marketing Manager Dennis van de Kerkhof.

“We see ourselves as a development partner for companies. We help them to bring a better product to market quicker.” The decisive aspects for customers are the fact that new products will decide whether they will be successful or not in the future, and the fact that optimum production processes lay the foundations for competitive prices.

Reliability
Another important core skill is reliability management. “New products and processes need to be developed increasingly quickly, whilst ever more demanding requirements are laid down in terms of quality and reliability”, says Van de Kerkhof. That’s why Holland Innovative trains engineers to be reliability checkers. Two typical projects that Holland Innovative is conducting in this area are “Reliability and Robust Design of Connectivity at Smart Meters” (a project for the energy industry) and “Reliability and Robust Design of Engines and Gearing Systems” (a project for the automotive industry).

The company has enjoyed success with this in the Netherlands for more than ten years already. In addition to the headquarters at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, Holland Innovative also has subsidiaries in Venlo, Enschede (at the University of Twente) and in Germany.

German Master Black Belts
Word has also spread of success in Germany, which is why in January 2017 the company founded Holland Innovative GmbH. The site is based in North Rhine-Westphalia, however projects are being carried out elsewhere for example even in South Germany, whereby complete project teams are working with customers on site. At Hannover Messe, the high-tech specialists want to actively recruit highly qualified employees. “Our HR Manager will therefore also be part of the group. What we are looking for is so-called ‘Master Black Belts’ who have experience in implementing enhancement projects. We already have a small team in Germany but of course we need more German colleagues who can implement our projects at big companies”, says HR Manager, Ms. Keggenhoff.

Holland Innovative’s second key focus area is supporting start-ups. As such, the company has set up bases both in Eindhoven and in Venlo, where young company founders can rent affordable business space. They also benefit from the experience and contacts of the high-tech specialists. In Enschede, Holland Innovative is located on the campus of the University of Twente – a university that is famous for its start-up culture. The university already boasts 800 new companies.

A platform for start-ups
Holland Innovative, one of the initiators of the “Start-up and Innovation Square” in Hall 4, will be providing young entrepreneurs with a huge platform at Hannover Messe. There, 20 innovative start-ups will be presenting their companies to potential customers and investors. They are from a wide variety of sectors, ranging from healthcare and the automotive industry to 3D printing. “For us, the most important thing is the contacts that will be made in Hannover. In previous years, they have enabled us to generate important momentum.”

Holland Innovative will also be involved in the “Meeting the Industry Giants” initiative in Hall 3. “There, together with Young Tech Enterprises and Hannover Messe itself, we will be putting start-ups in contact with large corporations”, reports Hans Meeske, Founder and General Director of Holland Innovative. Both parties can benefit from this: the established OEMs need fresh ideas that they are unable to develop quickly enough themselves, and the start-ups are looking for strong partners who can get their ideas to market. It’s really a win-win situation. And Holland Innovative will have built the all-important bridges…
