Flexible production leads to increased revenue

Optimised processes determine a company’s products and revenue and hence its future, which is reason enough to continuously carry out optimisations and adjustments and be on the lookout for new opportunities. “There’s always something that can be improved”, says a knowing Jeroen Konings, Founder and Managing Director of JEKO Tech, which is based in Ysselsteyn, the Netherlands. But how? His answer to this question is the Workflow++ concept, which he will be showcasing at Hannover Messe in several presentations. A typical example is the D-Bag LCD robot, which will be demonstrating how it can lift, open and empty 25-kg bags in Hall 4.

Workflow++ is JEKO Tech BV’s new trademark. Since the company was founded in 1999, it has proven itself to be a reliable partner in the areas of consultancy, training, coaching and implementation – in challenging projects and across a wide variety of sectors.

The Workflow++ method
“It is worth regularly carefully examining your own company’s processes and rooting out any weak points”, says Konings from experience. His approach consists of bespoke activities, but the principles are always the same: first you have to make an inventory of the current situation. This requires comments and observations from the consultant as well as the knowledge of the employees and management. “The main objective here is to listen attentively.”

The second step consists of carefully analysing the company and the processes using historical process data. This is the stage at which initial ideas for changes emerge. In many cases, tests will be required in order to check whether the ideas can actually be implemented. The consultant and the customer then select strategic improvement measures together.

Employee training
Workflow++ then formulates an optimisation plan, which the customer subsequently implements. However, as Konings well knows, there is often still a gap that needs to be closed between the new insights and the ability to put them into action. “I keep a close eye on the process and train the employees where necessary or adapt the process further in line with the company’s situation. I’m there to help for as long as is necessary”, says Jeroen Konings.

Selected partner companies then carry out the transition, for example from rigid production lines to smaller, more flexible work cells supported by robots, in which smart machines work together with humans. A significantly more diverse range of products can be manufactured in these cells. At the same time, lead times are significantly reduced. “Experience has shown that these cells improve capacity, quality and the work atmosphere.”

Repetitive work can be automated and tracked with the help of sensors. The processes can be optimised even faster based on the results. “That is the first + of Workflow. The second + comes afterwards: the entire project is repeated as there is always something that can be improved”, emphasises Konings.

D-Bag LCD (lifting, cutting, dumping)
Jeroen Konings is the brains behind the patented D-Bag LCD robot. He will be giving presentations about the system and holding live demonstrations in Hannover. 3D camera technology captures the bags which the robot lifts and moves along a fixed rotating blade. The robot then opens the bags and empties them. The D-Bag LCD can work 24 hours a day, safely, hygienically, carefully and quickly. Physically demanding and tedious labour can therefore be avoided. “Industry has been waiting for a system like this”, says a confident Konings.

JEKO Tech also took part in the trade fair two years ago. “We are looking forward to seeing what the next trade fair has to offer.” After all, things are always improving…

A platform for start-ups

Around 20 innovative start-ups from the Netherlands will be exhibiting at the Start-up and Innovation Square in Hall 4 of Hannover Messe. They will be presenting their companies and showcasing their products to potential customers and investors under the auspices of high-tech experts from Holland Innovative.
